Hi everyone. I have been doing really well for the past couple of months, strictly following all the recommendations to rid myself of candida. I hardly ever eat out anymore to avoid temptations, it is easier for me to cook at home.
I decided to take my family up on an invitation to the cheesecake factory for lunch..I ordered the shrimp scampi- it has been months since I had something like that and it tasted GOOD! But I did not stop there...I had a slice of oreo cheesecake for dessert. Within 15 minutes I was in the bathroom vomiting! I think I sent my system into shock with all the sugar.
Will I ever be able to add foods like these back into my diet (not every day of course) without getting sick? I have been feeling pretty good lately and I guess I thought my system could handle it but I was wrong!
Do I have to say goodbye to the sweets forever?

Hi, Lauren.
As I have posted, and archived, many times: You have to do the PWFD for at least 6 months to have a good chance of having the occasional sweet (even fruits) without a reaction like this.
Hope this helps. At least now you have an inkling what this stuff has been doing to you all along that you were numb to.

Hi Lauren
I suffered the same thing when I cheated on the whole foods diet during the first few months.
But once I got to about 6 months, and started to experiment SLOWLY with what i could and could not eat, I had NO REACTION.
My worst offending foods whilst i was in the vulnerable stage of whole foods diet (1st few months) was chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate! :) So the first few times I cheated on whole foods diet and got a bad reaction, I realized that it wasn't worth the side effects, and basically stopped eating ANY offending foods; stoppedcold turkey, and that's when the cravings totally stopped!
I started the whole foods/anti candida diet back in Feb. this year. I restricted ALL fruit, ALL sugar, no dairy, very little grains/complex carbs, no refined carbs.
It's funny how easy it is when you start to see results to stick with the program.
Now, I can eat fruit, and some grains/complex carbs, but I am sensible about it. I won't eat very sweet fruit, like mangoes, rockmelon, etc. I stick to blueberries, apples, strawberries, papaya, etc, and I am one happy camper to knkow that I can eat those at all, espcially as my candida was severe.
I did have chocolate cake (YES, chocolate cake~! :) last week at a restaurant, and had NO BAD REACTION! It was wonderful, but that's bcause I have been following whole foods diet for so long. I don't go overboard when I have the "bad" food. I will have just a little piece of chocolate cake, and not try and eat the WHOLE cake. :)
Just this weekend, I was away on vacation, and had some french fries, but now I won't have anymore for a long time. So, it's important to take it slow and easy when coming off wholefoods diet. I plan to stick with this diet indefinitely, with occasional cheating on the "bad" foods.
So, yes, sometimes you will fall off the food bandwagon whilst on the wholefoods diet, :) but just get up, dust yourself off, and keep going. You will find that following this way of eating will soon feel so normal and make you feel so good, that to eat cheesecake or any other "bad" food will feel rather strange to your new, acquired tastebuds.

Hi Bliss, You are right- it certainly was not worth the side effects to go off program! My experiences yesterday will certainly serve as a reminder to stay on track! I am glad to hear you can enjoy the occasional treat without a bad reaction, maybe in time I will be able to as well.
Thanks for the response.

Hi Walt. Thanks for responding. You are absolutely right, I am heading out to shop for more whole foods right now! It is amazing that my body reacted so severely to foods that I used to eat without a problem (before it caught up to me I guess). :) Lauren

HI Lauren
If you can stick with it, THEN in six months time, you can experiment with what is safe to eat and what is not.
Even though I cheated a few times during the PWFD, it was once I got to the six month mark that I started to SLOWLY include fruit back into my diet.
It was an important step for me when I could eat it without a reaction, and an even more important step when I ate chocolate cake and fries WITHOUT a reaction.
The important thing is to take it SLOW, just alittle of that food at a time, and watch for any overt symptoms when slowly introducing the previous offending foods.

Thanks, Maria.
That IS the way it usually works!
