Fallen off the wagon

I’m a great example of what happens when you stop doing the 3 legged stool. Over 5 years ago I found this site in my desperate search for relief from my chronic hives (it had been about 8 months of non-stop hives). I got/read all the necessary materials (MAH MAS, Stress workbook, whole foods diet book) and started immediately on the three legged stool. Within 10 days of doing SR (self-hypnosis), I had great improvements in the occurrences and severity of my outbreaks. Within 2 and half months, the hives were completely gone. I continued with SR (20mins. – 2 times/day) for a year and half, but was less committed to the exercise and diet.

Well, as I am sure you’ve guessed, I gave it all up. I was feeling so good and doing so well but, I fell off the wagon about 3 years ago…and lo and behold, my hives came back a month ago. I know what pushed my over the edge, the past six months have been extremely stressful with getting a new house, living with the in-laws for months, moving, a death in the family and not to mention, my horrible diet and lack of exercise and SR.

I decided to share my story in the hopes that others may learn from my experience and not find themselves where I am now. When I woke with the hives, it was a HUGE wake up call for me and a lesson learned! I immediately started SR (self-hypnosis), the whole foods diet and moderate exercise.

What I’ve found is that my progress is slower and more gradual this time. While I had hoped for quick results with the SR (like last time), it has not been the case. The hives are more manageable than last time and I am coping much better but, they seem to be taking their sweet time in going. At first I thought I was getting in the way, having expectations based on my past experience and then when the results did not appear, I would get frustrated – counter productive to the whole premise of SR, I know. For the past two weeks I have really tried to let go of any expectations/hopes and have given in. I also decided to get help with the self-hypnosis rather do it on my own like I did last time. All in all, I have noticed I’m becoming more calm and relaxed, my shoulders aren’t up all the time and I am more aware of when I am bracing. But what I’m wondering is, do I need to do something different? Why is my progress slower than before? Why am I still at the edge of the cliff?

Hi Shantih,

Walt has said that if one stops and starts again, that often the results are less. However, restarting and continuing to do the pratices of the 3LS are really the best thing that you can do for yourself.

We included this information in "Recapture Your Health" (chapter 5). Have you seen the book? We tried to put all the details in it about the 3LS.... maybe you would get some new ideas there about how to make your practices more effective and other ways to reduce stress in your life. (These are things I can't know or advise you on just from your e-mail.)

So keep going forward with the 3LS!

Best wishes,
Jan

Thanks for sharing your story with us.

My cut on why results are slower is with the mind/body. The first time everything was new and in your mind you wanted to get well, so you did. Now your mind has learned and knows what is coming so there are no supprises. Work on reprograming your mind to embrace wellness and tell yourself, this will now be our way of life.

Silver Fox!
