I want to give a high five to Dr. Stoll for his two books. I split my time as a medical journalist and senior editor, practicing medical psychologist, neuroresearcher and working my own healing program (again)!
I have only skimmed Dr. Stoll books and have not had time to cover the far corners of his web site. What I see is dead on for what I have found to work for me and my patients. I specialize in treating anxiety disorders and psychiatric drug detox...especially the benzodiazepine tranquilizers that wreck total destruction on the nervous system.
I especially like his analogy of the cliff. I tell my patients that staying away from the razors edge is 1000 times easier than crawling out of a breakdown hole.
Since we know that 85% of all patients presenting at a GP's office have stress overload disorders the SR is CRITICAL and knowing how to do it correctly with biofeedback so you aren't just sitting. What is exciting is that there are over 60 recognized allostatic load disorders that can be corrected without caustic drugs and expensive doctors - I work with patients with several: anxiety, panic, IBS, MCS, TMJ, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.
I got too self-assured, gave up my rigorous self-care for "Doing" more and more and now have to work another recovery program - this time I have "Got It" and wont allow myself to circle the drain again.
I appreciate Dr. Stolls work and look for ward to reading his book cover to cover.
