Anyone have any ideas????

Posted by Trying on May 28, 2003 at 07:56:08:

Ok. We all know that there are about a billion things out there to help people lose weight. My question is...... is there anything to help gain it?
I have always been thin, and am just proud that I have gained 10 lbs. after having two kids. I eat well, and can't gain weight to save my life. My mother is built small, as is dad, and a couple of my uncles. I'm 5'7 123lbs. I don't eat much as far as junk foods and sweets, never have. But I get so tired of people saying "you are so skinny". One of these days I'm gonna turn around and say "yeah, and you are so fat". It's just as frustrating for me as it is for over weight people. Any ideas how to try to gain? Or is this it for me?

Re: Anyone have any ideas? - yes, one.

One idea:

Live with it -be comfortable with it.

I've been thin all my life. I don't know for sure if it is because of sugar metabolism difficulties, or something else.
I used to eat all manner of fattening junk food, protein drinks, mild shakes. cakes and pies.

Nada, Zilch, Zip. No weight gain.

Thin father, thin brother. It just was not in the gameplan as far as more weight was concerned. It bothered me for a good while, and then I just gave up. My body was going to do what it was going to do, and that was that. It was up to me to adjust to that.

Jealousy is often behind these comments, that and rudeness. I often wonder if there were no variance in body type would these clowns be satisfied or would they find some other deviance from their internal norm to make comment and complain about.

Tell those who say "You are so skinny" "YOU are so rude!" and leave it at that. You're fine the way you are.

Thats exactly what I feel like saying to some of the numskulls who say the same thing to me! It gets very annoying. No one has said that to me now for a while, as I have put on some weight. I am 5'7, and 55 kilos. Not sure how to convert that to your american standards. But how dare overweight people criticize me or you for being skinny.
Do I go around calling people "fatty", NO! So where do they get off doing it to me.
The funniest part is when a very overweight woman I use to work with up until a short time ago, would criticise someone else and then say that THEY should get off THEIR fat arse. Couldnt believe that one! :)

Anyway, you may want to try eating more fatty cuts of meat. I love chicken thighs (fattiest part of chicken, besides the skin), I drink fullcream soymilk, red meat with the fat on three times a week, and goats milk cheese(high in fat) all this helps me hold my weight steady.

You should respond "Jealous???"

5 7 and 123 lbs. I do not think that is too skinny since you eat healthy (and what does the doctor say?). Consider this most models are taller than you and weigh about that. I'm 5 5 and 100 lbs and I get the same thing. But an article interviewing petite models a few years back stated that most are around that weight, though they were 1 or 2 inches shorter.

As long as you eat your 3 squares, you should not worry about what other people say. Enjoy it.

The idea of "full cream soy milk" is intriguing and a little frightening to me. What is the deal?

Doc just laughs at me. Tells me that if I was a "chubby person" I would have it made. He's not concerned as I have always been small.

I have the same problem! I went to my obgyn who is also quite holistic, and he put me on zinc and protien shakes with amino acids.... the zinc helped up my appetite a bit, and the shakes add a little bulk (I work out a lot)....
But in whole, if you are healthy - stay with it. (I was fatigued)... and yes, it isn't fair. I had my sister tell me I look like I was in a concentration camp. If I told HER that she was a fat slob, it would not be "correct" politically - right? But to slam someone for being thin, it seems heavy people think they have the right. My husband and I were just talking about that issue the other night (I was in tears over her "skinny bones" comments) meanwhile she is overweight! I'm thin but muscular! uy!

I'm 5'10, between 120-125 lbs and when someone says "you're so skinny", I just take it as a compliment. Why shouldn't I? There's nothing wrong with being naturally thin.

Hi Michele

I also get upset over this, because I dont think I AM skinny. I still have my curves in the right places, and dont look anorexic. My boss made a passing comment, as she was trying to be sweet, and called me by a pet name about my weight. I wont mention it here, but it shoook me to the core. I hated it! She calls another friend of mine that as well. I dont have the guts to challenge her, unfortunately, unless she says something that really hurts me. It didnt hurt me, it just shocked me.

I remember when I was 11, and had just started ANOTHER new school (we seemed to move every year), there was this kid in my class, and we were coming back into class from recess, and he asked me if I was from Ethiopia, lol, because I was so skinny. That also kind of shocked me! lol

But I do resent when people say you are so skinny. God damnit! I am not! not anymore. I was heading that way. yes.but I am eating better now, and more fatty foods to help.

Like you, my appetite has never been the best. Sometimes good for a while, and then I go through a phase of no appetite, and I can lose the weight that I have gained so fast if I dont watch myself. I dont exercise, other than my dancing, as i am scared tolose weight again, now that my weight is stabilized, and I am happy with my weight and my body.

I havent alwasy been thin. Last year this time, I weighed 65 kgs, and was looking like a bit of a heffer. :) Tummy rolls, couldnt fit into my clothes etc. I did lose 12 kilos in a very short amount of time, but I wasnt eating well, and had lost my appetite BIGTIME. I am better now.

Intriguing and frightening. Hmm, sounds like a perfect description of me. lol

Isn't the idea of drinking soy milk generally to avoid animal milk??

Hi, Trying.

Be proud and grateful. You will have the last laugh!

It has been ALWAYS known that people who weight less than the "norm" live longer and have fewer degenerative diseases than those who are "normal weight" or more.

Oh, I guess that didnt come out right then. :)

I should have said full fat soymilk, not cream as in animal fat. In other words, not the low fat varieties or fat free soymil.

You say that last year you were a "heffer" at 5'7" and 143 lbs.; you lost ~ 20lbs. and now you're skinny. I don't think so. . . Could be that these people are just noticing the difference -- take it as a compliment!

I am 5'7, and 55 kilos. Not sure how to convert that to your american standards.

For weights of normal humans, it's OK to multiply kg by 2 to get lb's. This will produce an error, but it's not too bad. To be more precise, multiply by 2.2

Get Versaverter, a free very useful conversion (from practically anything to anything) tool.

LOL! That IS Funny!
Sure I like attention. Most women do.
Just not "skinny" attention.
Its funny though because now, if I lose one or two kilos from maybe not eating well, or whatever, I can feel that "skinny" feeling in my body, thats why I feel its so important to make sure I eat enough.
And let me tell you, that "skinny" feeling isnt nice.
