An old patient of Walt's has just developed a wonderful and thought-provoking protocol for those who are struggling with the controversy surrounding cancer treatment. He offers a free copy for a self-addressed, stamped #10 envelope sent to Benton & Nancy Kilgallin, 17644 Route #3, Catlettsburg, KY 41129--with your request. The title of the protocol is: "Cancer Treatment Choices - Medical or Nutritional Immune Response Illustration".

Cancer and Power lines

Cancer and Power Lines FAQs
Public controversy about electricity and health will continue until: (1) future research shows conclusively that the fields are hazardous, or (2) until the public learns that science cannot guarantee absolutely safety, or (3) until the public and media gets bored by the subject.

Neither of the first two outcomes are particularly likely, but the third may be happening.

Walt believes the best way to determine if you have Candida is to take the Candida Questionnaire which is available in many books. One version of this questionnaire is available on-line at http://www.eastparkresearch.com/candidatest.html

Candy, Addiction

Killer Sugar! Suicide With A Spoon!
The folks that tend to become easily addicted to sugar occupy the metabolic Extremes, I.E. an Extreme H/G or an Extreme AG. There is always the argument of nature versus nurture, and sugar addiction probably has some psycho-social stuff going on as well as the physiological effects of inherited metabolism. There is also a VERY real tendency to develop food allergy to cane and other types of sugar. This would lead the individual to suffer classic withdrawal symptoms similar to drug addiction.

Canker Sores

Walt's Canker Sores Summary and Q&A Archive
Frequent recurrence of canker sores is an early sign of impending LGS. Certainly environmental chemicals are causes of this problem. The reason Walt focuses on raising immune reserves is that in that way the person's exposure to life continually expands; whereas just focusing on eliminating triggers (CE) continually narrows their exposure to life.

Dr. Edward Cutler says that 4 out of 5 canker sore sufferers will get relief if they stop using toothpaste that contains sodium laurel sulfate (SLS). He is the inventor of Enamel Saver (R) Toothpaste, described at
Dallas Eschenauer's web site which describes several chemicals which can cause canker sores. Call toll free at 1-877-718-0718 to order this toothpaste.

Carbuncle

A multiloculated abscess that it treated by opening all the loculations surgically and then using hot soaks for 5 minutes at least every hour until it starts getting better, and then 4 times a day until it is normal. If it is not getting better in a day, it means that the physician missed one of the loculations.

Cataracts, reversing
Walt's response to a recent question about reversing cataracts: Contact The Rockland Corporation, 12215 East Skelly Drive, Tulsa, OK 74128. (800) 331-3654 and ask them about how you can find out about "Body Toddy", which reverses AND prevents cataracts. However, if this were me, I would also be taking at least 2 grams of Ester-C twice a day; at least 100 milligrams of coenzyme Q10 twice a day, 50 milligrams of zinc and 1000 units of vitamin E once a day.

Catharsis

The release or active expression of emotions, sometimes in negative ways (breaking things in anger), but more appropriately in positive ways (verbalize it, act it out, work it off) and other anger management or fear reduction methods.

CBT - Cognitive Behavior Therapy

CE - Clinical Ecologist

Certainly environmental chemicals are causes (triggers) of the problems addressed by Clinical Ecologists. The reason Walt focuses on raising immune reserves (instead of just finding and eliminating exposures to specific chemicals) is that in that way the person's exposure to life continually expands; whereas just focusing on eliminating triggers continually narrows their exposure to life. CFS - Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Walt's Chronic Fatigue Summary and Q&A Archive
An illness characterized by unexplained fatigue, weakness, muscle pain, lymph node swelling, and malaise. Outside the US, CFS is called ME.

Walt says: EBV, CFS and like conditions are all caused by the same basic mechanisms and are resolved by very similar approaches, which deal with those causes or at least enough of the aggravating mechanisms that the bodymind can re-establish a much healthier homeodynamic. Which syndrome any individual experiences is a lot more due to the genetic susceptibility of that individual than it is to any actual causes. Any one who practices the 3 legs of the "wellness" stool will have none of these conditions within 6 months.

Chelation Therapy

Walt's Chelation Summary & Q&A Archive
Walt's Chelation Article
A Chelation Site
Vibrant Life (Karl Loren's Web site)
Chelation Article Therapy of treating heavy metal poisoning using chemical agents which sequester the metal from organs or tissues and bind it firmly within the ring structure of a new compound which can then be eliminated from the body.

Chelation therapy is a form of healthcare that draws metabolic wastes and toxic metals out of the bloodstream. This is usually achieved by injecting chelating agents (such as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid—EDTA) into the body intravenously that binds with other substances.

Chelation therapy has been reported to remove the calcium content of plaque from the artery walls as well as to remove toxic ions and restore circulation to all the tissues of the body. A growing number of physicians use Chelation therapy to reverse the process of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and as an alternative to angioplasty and bypass surgery.

Chelation therapy is also used to treat degenerative diseases such as lupus and arthritis. Chelation is an outpatient therapy that is painless and takes about three and a half hours to perform. Most physicians recommend twenty to thirty sessions for optimal results. Although conventional medicine shuns it, a body of research supports the use of Chelation therapy.

Walt says of Chelation: ALL degenerative conditions (of which macular degeneration is a classical one) start by tissue getting sick and finally dying when nothing is done about WHY it is getting sick. Long before it dies, it stops functioning. Chelation can bring back to functionality any tissue that is not already dead. If there is enough tissue still alive, there will be very significant improvement in function.

See ACAM - American College for the Advancement of Medicine

(the international training and certification organization for Chelation). They can tell you the closest Certified Chelation Physician.

Oral Chelation

IV Chelation has at least 2500 world literature research articles supporting the effectiveness of this technique--once symptoms of vascular insufficiency are present. To Walt's knowledge, there are NONE for "oral Chelation" that exceed placebo effects (35% in double blind studies and 70% in non-blinded studies).

In Walt's opinion, oral Chelation likely would help prevent these kind of problems IF it was started at least 20 years prior to the onset (hard to prove, except statistically, over MANY people). Human nature tells us that few people will do something like this until they are desperate with serious symptoms.

Chemotherapy Causes Cancer

A study of 439 young cancer patients receiving the drug 6-Mercaptopurine has revealed that the drug increases the likelihood that these children will develop secondary leukemia. Doctors at the National University Hospital in Copenhagen, Denmark, recorded five cases of secondary myelodysplasia or acute myeloid leukemia in children given 6-Mercaptopurine together with other chemotherapeutic drugs. (Cancer 1999;86:1080-1086)

Cherry-picking

From a list of options, picking whatever looks the easiest for to you to do, rather than doing what is really needed to resolve a situation. Cherry-picking is human nature!

Chewing one's food

From Dr. Mercola: It is very important to chew your food properly. Try to chew your food to a liquid form and then swallow it. This will pre-digest your food with the enzymes in your saliva. It will also provide neurological stimulation of your stomach and pancreas to increase their acid and digestive enzyme production. Avoid chewing gum for this same reason. It is also helpful NOT to talk while you are chewing your food, as this interferes with optimal digestion. Please try not to drink fluids with your meals as this will dilute the gastric digestive contents and make it more difficult to digest. If you need a few sips of water during a meal, that would be fine. (Drinking while eating affects some people much more than others.)

Crohn's Disease

Walt's LGS Summary and Q/A Archive
A colon problem named by Dr. B.B. Crohn. See LGS and CRS for causes and Wellness for permanent cure. Walt says that Crohn's is but an advanced form of LGS and the individual's genetic susceptibility.

In contrast to Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn's Disease may affect the small intestine as well as the large intestine. The heralding acute crisis of Crohn's Disease is sometimes an intestinal obstruction with vomiting, or the appearance of a fistulous tract between the intestine and the bladder, allowing stool to pass into the urine.

Cliff, Edge of the Cliff

A metaphor that Walt uses for the limit of one's functional capacity. The closer a person is to the limits of the functional capacity (the edge of the cliff) of that organ system, the more any stressor will affect that system. The definition of any dis-ease could be "falling over the cliff." Walt recommends Rolfing or deep, total-body, therapeutic massage 3 times a week for 2 weeks to many folks. With this, someone else is "grabbing you by the arm" and dragging you back from the cliff edge for a while.

Cluster Headache

Attacks are brief (1 hour); pain is severe and felt on one side of head; attacks occur episodically in clusters (with periods of no headaches) and mainly in males. Person has the following symptoms on same side as pain: swelling below eye, runny nose, watery eyes

CNS - Central Nervous System

The nerve connections that run from the brain to the body, an important link between mind and body. It translates the intention to move a muscle into the electrical nerve impulses that result in movement of our arms and legs, etc. This system may also play an important role in regulating the immune system.

Coach

A good coach is an experienced and effective ally who's right there beside you advising, advocating, stretching, encouraging, challenging - in the service of helping you realize what's most important to you.

The act of speaking to, listening to, and sounding out with a coach clarifies focus and moves you along the lines of your intention in a way that is not possible to do alone. Further, the coaching relationship creates something of a "magnetic field", where good things synchronistically happen.

Cold

Another Cold/Flu Page

Cold: A slang term that describes a viral upper respiratory infection which results from inflammation of the mucous membranes of the nasal cavity.

Cold Hands and Feet

You know that people who are scared or nervous have cold hands and feet?! The reason that the hands and feet that are noticed is that they are the furthest from the heart and so are affected the most. However, the entire skin circulation gets cut down during the fight or flight mechanism: If one meets the saber-toothed tiger, the last thing one wants is for the skin to have a lot of blood circulation. Just minor cuts might lose a lot of blood and reduce the chances of survival. Making sense???

ANYHOW, as one is getting very relaxed, the circulation comes back to the skin and that means that the individual can lose a lot more heat from the body because the blood is right out there near the surface. This heat loss makes the person feel cold.

When people are "vigorously healthy", they have enough reserves that just this much heat loss would be MUCH more easily tolerated----to the point where it might not even be noticed. At least it would not "bother" the person.

Colon Problems

Constipation

Walt's Constipation and Stool Withholding Article
Walt's Constipation Summary & Q&A Archive
A good Constipation Article

Infrequent or difficult evacuation of the faeces.

Walt says: People who are habitually constipated either are eating mainly refined foods or have LGS.

The classical solution to constipation has always been to drink lots of water.

Prunes are a laxative and, as such, are habit-forming. So long as they work and are only used for a short time, no problem. In cases of chronic constipation, avoiding anything that can be habit -forming would be best.

Contact Dermatitis

Any contact dermatitis (that means any skin problem that results from something "contacting" it) has a self-limited existence of about 6 weeks. Anything that persists beyond that long is either re-contact OR some other chronic skin condition has been triggered by the initial insult; and the present diagnosis is no longer "contact dermatitis".

Contagious

Picture this: There are germs, fungi, and viruses everywhere, all the time. They are all over us and all around us. Why don't we all have infections all the time? Because our skin (mechanically) protects us from all the nasties out there, right? But, if we fall down and skin our knee, there's an opening in that barrier. This makes it easier for one of the nasty germs to grow inside there; so sometimes we will get an infection. With other "infectious" diseases, it's our immune system that (chemically/biologically) protects us from all the nasties out there. If we are run down, stressed, unhealthy, or somehow immunologically compromised, it's like leaving an opening for germs and diseases to come in. We get sick due to something that is always present. There are two sides to the story. One is the "bugs" out there (they're everywhere!); the other is the "barrier" we have to protect us (our skin and our immune system). IF our barrier is not working right or is somehow broken, then the bugs get out of control and harm us.

Controlling Vascular and Migraine Headaches

Walt's Controlling Vascular and Migraine Headaches Article
Walt's Headaches Summary and Q&A Archive
Vascular: Pertaining to blood vessels or indicative of a copious blood supply.

Migraine Headache

The most common type of vascular headache involving (it is thought). abnormal sensitivity of blood vessels (arteries) in the brain to various triggers resulting in rapid changes in the artery size due to spasm (constriction). Other arteries in the brain and scalp then open (dilate), and throbbing pain is perceived in the head. The tendency to migraine is inherited and appears to involve Serotonin, a chemical in the brain involved in the transmission of nerve impulses that trigger the release of substances in the blood vessels that in turn cause the pain of the migraine. These nerve impulses cause the flashing lights and other sensory phenomena known as an aura that may accompany a migraine. Not all severe headaches are migraines (most headaches are muscle-tension headaches), and not all migraines are severe.

Cortisone/Prednisone, long-term dangers of using

Prednisone reduces inflammation as ONE of its many functions. Inflammation is one of the essential mechanisms the bodymind uses to protect and heal itself. Since many of the unpleasant symptoms we experience come from the inflammation, it is too seductive, for doctors mainly interested in short-term gain, to avoid using it. SO, suppressing that inflammation function eventually is counterproductive. Topically, the main thing that can happen to one using Cortisone for a long time is that the dermis can become permanently atrophied. You do not want that!

Entire books have been written about the mechanisms of action of Cortisone and all of those who are screwed up when Prednisone is taken for any length of time. Walt sees nothing wrong with using Cortisone for the life-saving effect it can have. His complaint is that when it is used INSTEAD of looking for WHY the problem is there, it is always eventually counterproductive. Walt says the long term (a year) use of Prednisone should NEVER be used for anything but life-threatening situations, since it would be life-threatening on its own.

Costo - Costochondritis

Walt's Costo Summary and Q&A Archive

A condition that is caused by inflammation of the costochondral joints. This is perceived as chest pain with tenderness to one or both sides of the sternum (breast bone). Chest pains are often worse when taking a deep breath or when moving the chest wall.

Walt says: Costochondritis is simply inflammation of the rib joints, and attachments of intercostal muscles to the ribs, due to persistent "bracing" of the intercostal muscles. So far, the only known cause of this persistent tension of the intercostal muscles is chronic stress-effect storage in the hypothalamus. This makes breathing like trying to run with a muscle cramp in your leg. You can stop running, but you cannot stop breathing. SO, when this tension is always there of course, eventually, the muscles get painful and their attachments become inflamed.

CMD - CranioMandibular Dysfunction

A dental term which describes a collection of symptoms, which result when the chewing muscles and jaw joints do not work together correctly. "TMJ" is a popular term commonly used to describe the same group of symptoms.

Cranial Osteopathy

Crest Syndrome

Walt's Dysautonomia Q&A Archive
A variant of scleroderma (hardening of the skin) that is characterized by the following: Calcinosis, Raynaud's disease, oesophageal motility disorder, sclerodactyly, and telangiectasia.

CRS - Candida-Related Syndrome

Walt's Candida CRS Article
Candida Albicans: A dimorphic fungus that is an opportunistic pathogen of humans. A common aetiological agent for candidiasis and thrush. This species is found as a part of the normal gastrointestinal flora. See LGS. Candidiasis is more of a function of immunity than anything else. That is why sugar (which greatly reduces ones immunity for several hours after ingesting sugar) is so devastating in the fight against Candida and why small amounts of fruit are not.

We ALL are continuously passing the yeast form of candida through our guts because it is everywhere in our environment. It is only a problem when it "sprouts" into the fungal form which is NEVER normal. Candida cannot "sprout" in our guts unless we already have LGS and the resultant Dysbiosis.

CS - Colloidal Silver

Sixty years ago colloidal silver had been used for many years, but it was falling into disrepute because of the long-term toxicity. The advent of antibiotics accelerated its "phasing out".

Silver is a "heavy metal". ALL heavy metals tend to accumulate in the body and ALL are toxic in trace amounts.

The problem is that CS is effective in the short term--just as antibiotics, cortisone, etc., are. It is the "whoops factor" that Walt is concerned about.

All of the papers about silver's toxicity, 50-60 years ago have been forgotten. Those who ignore history will be doomed to repeat it.

CSF - Cerebro-Spinal Fluid

"A clear, colorless fluid that contains small quantities of glucose and protein. Cerebrospinal fluid fills the ventricles of the brain and the central canal of the spinal cord."

Analysis of the cerebrospinal fluid can be accomplished using lumbar puncture. The presence of white blood cells or bacteria within the cerebrospinal fluid can indicate a bacterial infection (meningitis).

CTCA - Cancer Treatment Centers of America

CTCA Web Page
(800) 615-3055 Cancer Treatment Centers of America uses a multi-modality approach to treat cancer. They combine traditional therapies, primarily surgery, radiation and chemotherapy (including fractionated dose), with medicine’s newest therapies such as biological therapy andimmunotherapy.

Their objective is to provide their patients with options. Options that allow them to target their cancer as precisely as possible. Options that are tailored to their particular tumor type and behavior. Options that seek to offer the most effective treatment available, or a combination of treatments, old or new.

They also support the treatment plan with nutrition, psychological and pastoral care, which can be physiologically as well as emotionally beneficial in fighting cancer. By offering patients additional ways to beat their disease, they can become active participants in the fight against cancer and increase their chances for recovery.

CTS - Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Walt's Carpal Tunnel Q&A Archive
A condition where there is a disturbance of median nerve function in the wrist as the nerve passes through the carpal tunnel.

A buildup of scar tissue (inside the carpal tunnel) can lead to this surgically-correctable problem. Often treated with splinting and anti-inflammatory agents.

Cut the wires to the doorbell

Refers to medicine or surgery taken to address only the symptoms of a dis-ease without addressing the underlying cause.

If you cut the wires to the doorbell, so no one can tell you that your house is burning down, you will not be bothered by the noise, but the house will still burn down just the same.

Another way of saying it: If you ignore the red warning lights and gauges on your car dash, or if you cover them up with tape or paint, the underlying condition of your car engine still exists and it will eventually have to be addressed on a much more serious and costly basis.

Still another way to say it, except to the converse: "If you deal with the underlying cause of a problem, you will go a long way toward healing the physical symptom, much the same way that you can eliminate weeds by pulling out their roots instead of merely by snapping off the stems at ground level, leaving the potential for them to return.

Cysts

See specific cyst type for links to articles and archives.

Any closed cavity or sac that is lined by epithelium and often contains liquid or semi-solid material. Types: Hydradenitis, sebaceous, acne, Pilonidal and epidermal are all essentially the same process. Bartholins is a special vaginal lubricating gland (Women only have 2 of them.) Baker's is a hernia of the synovial lining of the knee joint. The essential oils will only have an effect on the Sebaceous types and not for the Pilonidal, since it has a genetic and structural cause.

Treating infected, weeping cysts so they can be surgically removed.
Walt recommends: Hot, moist soaks (folded wet washcloth is about right) wherein you keep the heat as warm as you can tolerate it (no need to burn yourself) for 5 minutes at LEAST 4 times a day, will resolve this quicker than any antibiotic can. I would put enough antibacterial bath soap on the cloth to just have some applied to the skin during the soak.

THEN, in this particular case, you need to put a little Vaseline on a Band-Aid and cover the opening till the next soak. This is to keep the opening draining AND to catch any drainage to avoid the mess. Finally, this Band-Aid will also tell you when you don't need to do it any more---there will be no color on the bandage when you remove it for the next soak.

Even then, since you need to keep it in this condition until you can get it surgically removed, you should continue the hot soaks twice a day. Since there is no longer any drainage, there is no need for the Band-Aid.
