LYMPH NODE TROUBLE

January 13, 2012 04:36PM
Good afternoon Dr. Stoll,
Backround:
I am a 26yr old healthy female (even though I got diagnosed with Hashimoto years back and right now do not have to take medications for it).
My lymph nodes however always have been an issue. I had to have lymph nodes removed when I was younger and the results came back normal (nodes removed were on my right side).
As I grew older I have not had issues with them up until a year and a half ago. I had a bad cold with signs of broncitis. Went to the dr because lymphnodes were involved (I know that this is normal). It took me about two weeks to get over that cold with the help of some antibiotics. I got CBC's done and even followed up with quite some lab works and they came all back as normal. In the meantime the nodes in my left neck (posterior auricular) were swelling with any small cold, I talked to my dr about it and she said if I worry so much to go see a specialist ENT.

She felt my nodes and was not concerned but ordered a ultrasound anyway to get a look ant them and my thyorid.

The report came back and noted "left side posterior auricular there is a loss of fatty hilum, although the lymph nodes are not enlarged by size criteria. Given the apperance a MRI is recommended". The tyroid and the right side of my neck are all normal.

My ENT decided to take a look at them with her own ultrasound and we decided to have a fine needle biopsy done next week. She mentioned that the node does not have liquide in it and something about scars I didn't understand.

I would like to understand a little better about this fatty hilum and the combination of scar tissue. I know that we will need a biopsy to get a final report but obviously I'm scared and google isn't helping but making it worse with all the memos about nodes with cancer in them lack of fatty hilum... But benign nodes sometimes do not have fatty hilum either. I do not have any side symptomes at all. No night sweat, no loss of weight.

I would appreciate any thoughts and help!
Thank you so much!
