Have you noticed that your computer seems to be more troublesome than ever.... ?
Browser Crashes, a Mouse that will not do anything, a hard drive light that seems to stay on forever, a message saying "Not Responding" is a common visible result.... if you do try to "close" something.
Are you now having Freeze problems?
If so, do the "ctrl alt del" salute and look to see if you have a process called "dumprep.exe" in the Task Manager List
If you shut that "Dumprep" down, the freeze will clear up.... your browser will shut down and the system will unfreeze...
CPU usage will drop from 100% to 30% or so..
If you want to prevent the Dumprep.exe from running and causing more freezes...
go to msconfig/startup and check to see if it is checked to run... If so
Uncheck it and see if that prevents future problems.... (You really don't need it if you never send a report
of the Crash to Microscoft.)
If it continues to be a problem....
go to control panel/windows/system32 and rename it to something else.... that is easy to find if you need it again.
I just added a few more D s to the filename to make it more visible like "ddddddddumprep.exe".
(Who knows... I might have to let it work again one day.)
Now it will not be able to start up and waste resources, causing another freeze.
Added May 24 2012...
One more item to check if you see your hard drive lite staying on and preventing typing and mouse
use:
Check your browser History to see how many days the History will be saved..
I found mine was set to 90 days... That is a huge file and needs to be updated frequently.
I reduced it to 60 days and the hard drive light does not show such long periods of activity...
Now it is only a few seconds at most.
