is solitary 'torture'?

The young Rep from NY recently called solitary 'torture'.

Recently, I came across a book from Anna Quinlan and read and enjoyed her collected columns. She was pretty much liberal and I found a column on HRT particularly interesting. She felt that we were the most educated, aware generation of women and we should do our own research and not act the victim of doctors' recommendations for HRT. I had to wonder, couldn't you apply the same logic to childhood vaccines?-the 'paradox' is that so many well-educated, degreed parents are failing to vaccinate- it's almost as if they are researching and LEANING ON THEIR OWN UNDERSTANDING- kind of like what Quinlan says we women should do about HRT (the book was written some years ago).

Trying to straighten out who is who among columnists, I rersearched to distinguish her and Molly Ivins apart, having read Ivins a LOT of years ago. In the course of that, I found out there was a female columnist named Florence King. She sounded interesting, so I bought The Florence King Reader-- laugh out loud funny- conservative , lesbian writer who used to pay the rent by writing porn novels. Called herself a misanthrope.

One point I agreed with her about was that solitary would be welcome, not punishment. Yesterday, news outlets started calling solitary 'torture' thanks to AOC.

What do YOU think- is solitary torture, bliss, or something else?

Here's Florence King's obit, her line about solitary is near the end of the obit.:
