My husband had his physical this morning. His regular doc only did the rectal/prostate check and the rest was done by a nurse practioner. The doc said his thyroid gland feels nice and flat and told him that the incontinence could have been from constipation or holding a stool in and since it only happened that once he shouldn't worry about but should come back immediately if it happens again. His b/p, weight, heart rate etc normal but he has an echocardiogram abnormality that has remained unchanged for decades. This nurse practioner said that since he is 55, he should get a base-line stress test. She also said she felt a unilateral swelling in his thyroid area but the diagnostic code was written down as "nodule." She wants him to get an ultrasound. His mother has a history of hypothyroidism. My husband does a lot of wrestling exercises ie neck bridges etc and he wants to know if that could cause swelling like a tendonitis. He is scheduled for the ultrasound next wednesday. I asked if she thought this was a lymph node and he said no -- she said one side of the thyroid gland is slightly larger. I would have felt better if his doc had felt his neck...Nothing against nurse practioners but this one was very young according to my husband...
PS: Update on father in law -- He is rejecting Crestor. His LDL is only 1 point above the so-called ideal and his HDL is over 50, Triglycerides under 60 and most importantly, his VLDL was at the lowest end of normal. No cardio CRP was done -- that's insanity to me to put a healthy 86 year old on a statin without even testing CRP...Anyway, my sweet father in law says he's going to reject the Crestor.
