Nifedipine is a calcium channel blocker but it was found out that it could stimulate the body to make IgM antibodies. Given that IgM antibodies are the first antibodies to appear when an infection begins, say pneumonia, would using Nifedipine be bad for the patient because of its' calcium channel blocking ability?
IgM Expressed on the surface of B cells and in a secreted form with very high avidity. Eliminates pathogens in the early stages of B cell mediated (humoral) immunity before there is sufficient IgG.
