The idea is that by super slow resistance training(there are several variations) you work both the slow and deeper fast twitch muscles and cardio ...(you will breathe heavily)triggering changes in the body. Evidence is that once a week for weight training is sufficient(ref: body by science, et al). I think if you are active otherwise, it might well be all that is needed overall and that overtraining is more prevalent than one might think. Exercise should be maximum benefit without wearing out the body. I doubt many P90Xers can sustain that program for the long haul.
